Abstract

Part four of The Place-Names of Leicestershire documents the history of the place-names in the fifty-four parishes of Gartree Hundred in the south-east of the county. Study of the toponymic record of this part of Leicestershire is facilitated by three significant collections of medieval material: the Peake MSS (Nevill of Holt), the Market Harborough Parish Records and the Shangton Records. Much of the material in the volume was collected from these sources by the author during the 1960s.
