Abstract
The Oil and Gas (O&G) sector is characterized by activities known to have several negative impacts on human and the environment. Literature review disclosed how sustainable procurement (SP) practices can help improve environmental, social and economic performance of practicing firms. The aim of this research is to investigate the role of SP practices in improving corporate sustainability. To achieve this, the research will identify the current level of SP practices in the O&G sector, its benefits, critical success factors, drivers and barriers to its adoption and implementation as these differ from sector to sector. Thereafter an SP framework will be developed and proposed. A quantitative research approach will be adopted as questionnaires will be used to obtain primary data while the analysis will be done with the aid of special software packages. Current findings already indicate a slow adoption of sustainability measures within the procurement function of O&G firms.
