Mr Gary Peploe G.A.Peploe@salford.ac.uk
Lecturer in Graphic Design
Digital media is mainstream in contemporary culture. Within creative education (like its predecessors, the traditional high arts of the academy), it risks becoming siloed.
The creative culture of the studio can be instrumental in addressing this. It is the space for engagement with ideas, materials, processes, and for open-ended creative speculation: think, make, discuss, collaborate, and play.
It is important to recognise the continuum of media-based creativity: creative practice using ‘media’ predates digital, electronic and even mechanical processes. This can be reflected through a widened scope of ‘media’, which encompasses the range of analogue and digital.
The School of Arts & Media recognises the value of and fosters cross-disciplinary approaches, welcoming creative input and methods from diverse disciplines, opening up the realm of media for exchange, and, through breaking down the silo mentality, creating the possibility for new forms of expression and new types of knowledge, exchange and industry.
