Abstract

Foodborne disease is a significant and growing problem. The control of foodborne disease is the responsibility of food handlers, food business operators and agencies developing and implementing national food control systems. The purpose of this research is to explore the development and implementation of national food control systems across multiple countries. This is undertaken through a review of international guidance and academic research, a series of exploratory interviews and a questionnaire.

This research provides a unique analysis of food control systems from the perspective of those involved in development and implementation. It will be of value to those working in the food industry, industry bodies, international organisations and academics as well as to those working in government in the development and implementation of food control systems worldwide.
