Abstract
This chapter outlines the case for an industrial archaeology of entertainment complexes by identifying some primary characteristics. As is appropriate to the discipline, there is a material bias to this case - an eye for buildings, iconography and a sense of what might be left behind. There is an emphasis on lineage, and a nod to the comparative method by looking at destination resorts both in their heartland of North America and on the far frontier of the form, in southermost Africa.
