Interdisciplinary challenge led learning – a blueprint for the future
Griffiths, A; Power, EJ
Abstract
Graduates of the future will be required to work in areas that transcend traditional academic disciplines and therefore new pedagogical approaches are needed to ensure they are equipped with the knowledge, skills, networks and attributes to thrive. A case-study is presented on The Creative Connection at Staffordshire University”. By using “challenge-based learning” we took students outside of their comfort zones by forming cross-discipline networks to co-create, generate knowledge, and ultimately develop 21st-century skills to work within an interdisciplinary context of uncertainty. The Creative Connection is presented as a best-practice framework, drawing on specific examples of interdisciplinary collaborative design challenges.
