Abstract

Introduction
The Raph is an invented musical instrument, work on early prototypes dates from 2008, and the project as a whole includes a patent (secured 2012) and successful PhD (completed 2015). This particular collection focuses upon the more ambitious composition, arranging and performance practice developed on the instrument subsequent to the completion of the much-improved prototype five during 2015. A range of new techniques have been explored and documented; from experimental work, integrating field recording and signal processing to the adaptation of traditional techniques from related instruments, evidenced in the ongoing development of an instrument specific notation system. The collection is an extended, multilayered creative investigation.
