Difficulties in recruiting pregnant women with eating or weight issues. (2010)
Journal Article
Tierney, S., Butterfield, C., Stringer, E., Fox, J., McGowan, L., & Furber, C. (2010). Difficulties in recruiting pregnant women with eating or weight issues. British Journal of Midwifery, 18(11), 717-723. https://doi.org/10.12968/bjom.2010.18.11.79559

During pregnancy, the eating behaviour and body of childbearing women can become open to public scrutiny. It is important to gather the views of those who are pregnant and have an eating/weight issue to ensure that maternity services meet their needs... Podiatrists’ perspectives of the provision of foot health education for people with Rheumatoid Arthritis. (2010)
Journal Article
A, G., A, H., & A, W. (2010). Podiatrists’ perspectives of the provision of foot health education for people with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Journal of Foot and Ankle Research, 3, https://doi.org/10.1186/1757-1146-3-s1-o11

Introduction
Patient education is considered to be a key role for podiatrists in the management of patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). However there is no evidence that identifies or supports the most appropriate strategies and content for its... Measurement of the optical properties of gold at cryogenic temperatures (2010)
Presentation / Conference Contribution

Optical constants of gold are measured at cryogenic temperatures. The imaginary part of epsilon exhibits a drop at longer wavelengths. This directly demonstrates that performance of metal-based optical devices can be improved by cryogenic cooling.

Curved waveguide Bragg gratings on a chip (2010)
Presentation / Conference Contribution

We demonstrate curved waveguide Bragg gratings on an SOI chip. Our approach allows long Bragg gratings to be fabricated on an extremely small area, avoiding write-field stitching errors, typically introduced in the fabrication process.

Compact chip-scale filter based on curved waveguide Bragg gratings (2010)
Journal Article
Zamek, S., Tan, D., Khajavikhan, M., Ayache, M., Nezhad, M., & Fainman, Y. (2010). Compact chip-scale filter based on curved waveguide Bragg gratings. Optics Letters, 35(20), 3477-3479. https://doi.org/10.1364/OL.35.003477

We propose a method for miniaturization of filters based on curved waveguide Bragg gratings, so that long structures can be packed into a small area on a chip. This eliminates the stitching errors introduced in the fabrication process, which compromi... Read More about Compact chip-scale filter based on curved waveguide Bragg gratings.

Active and passive nanophotonics for information systems applications (2010)
Presentation / Conference Contribution

This paper explores the role of nanotechnology with focus on nanophotonics in dielectric, metal, and semiconductor inhomogeneous metamaterials and devices for optical communications, information and signal processing, and sensing.

Steroid concentrations in plasma, whole blood and brain: Effects of saline perfusion to remove blood contamination from brain (2010)
Journal Article

The brain and other organs locally synthesize steroids. Local synthesis is suggested when steroid levels are higher in tissue than in the circulation. However, measurement of both circulating and tissue steroid levels are subject to methodological co... The emotive city (2010)
Presentation / Conference Contribution

How can a city, with its connections, people and architecture be viewed as a living cultural artefact? Every city has at least one ArtSpace; larger urban conurbations have a multitude of spaces devoted to art. The ArtSpace is a venue designed to con... Read More about The emotive city.

The ethnic question in an environment of insecurity: the Kurds in Turkey (2010)
Journal Article
Icduygu, A., Romano, D., & Sirkeci, I. (2010). The ethnic question in an environment of insecurity: the Kurds in Turkey. Ethnic and Racial Studies, 22(6), 991-1010. https://doi.org/10.1080/014198799329215

This article examines the effect that a poor structural context, what we term an "environment of insecurity", has on the Kurdish ethnic nationalist mobilization in Turkey. The empirical evidence for this analysis is based on data from the 1993 Turkis... Read More about The ethnic question in an environment of insecurity: the Kurds in Turkey.

Using the knowledge transfer partnership model as a method of transferring BIM and lean process related knowledge between academia and industry: A case study approach (2010)
Presentation / Conference Contribution

This paper looks at the vehicle of the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between academia and business and how successful it is in reaching its range of objectives and developing theoretical and practical educational materials for BIM curriculums....
