Research Interests I research meaning. In particular, I am interested in the human capacity for meaning. Using a range of methods, I explore the following questions in my research:

How does linguistic meaning differ from other types of human meaning (e.g., gesture)?
How does human communication differ from animal communication?
What role does a language's environment play on its structure?

Relatedly, I am fascinated by the history of 20th Century philosophy, particularly the analytic movement in Europe and America.
Teaching and Learning I am the programme leader for BA English Language. I am also the module leader for several modules on the degree:

Introducing Language
Structure of English
Truth and Meaning
Language and Communication

I also developed materials for and lecture on Critical Skills in the 21st Century
