Biography Jimmy Ewing is a Lecturer in Television and Radio Production at the University of Salford, where he teaches radio and podcast production, professional practice, and entrepreneurial practice and theory. With a background in public service broadcasting and audio storytelling for social change, Jimmy brings extensive industry experience to his academic work. He has previously worked with the BBC and in the UK prison system, using radio production as a tool to support rehabilitation and reduce reoffending.

Jimmy believes in the power of audio to shift perspectives and inspire change. This belief informs both his teaching and his research interests, which centre on storytelling, social impact, and widening participation. He currently leads the National College Podcast project — a knowledge exchange initiative designed to promote social mobility by encouraging young people from underrepresented and working-class backgrounds to apply to university. The project gives voice to college students and provides authentic peer-to-peer narratives that demystify higher education. A an engagement project lead, he forges partnerships that connect students with live industry briefs, external collaborators, and real-world learning opportunities.

Jimmy is also an advocate for improving understanding and support for neurodivergent students in higher education. Drawing on his own experience of ADHD, he actively supports students with similar experiences and works to promote inclusive teaching practices that empower neurodiverse learners.

In addition to his academic and creative practice, Jimmy has held senior leadership roles in recruitment and admissions, and continues to contribute to the university's enterprise and civic engagement agendas.

Jimmy holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership and Management and a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and an advocate for inclusive, applied education that prepares students for dynamic careers in the media and creative industries.
