Mr David Savill
Biography | I am senior lecturer in Creative Writing, founder and Programme Leader of BA Hons Creative Writing Multidiscipline. I lead the conceptual Northern School of Writing at The University of Salford, co-ordinating a network of professional writers across the University and leading on an innovation network supporting literacy and literary work in the city of Salford. I am the author of an award winning novel 'They Are Trying to Break Your Heart' (Bloomsbury 2016), and former BBC news and current affairs producer. |

Research Interests | My research is based in creative practice, community and education. My practice is fiction and creative prose. I write novels and creative essays about a number of subjects - most recently, the deterioration of liberal democracy, especially in Central Europe. In the field of education, I am a Senior Fellow of Higher Education and I am researching attitudes to reading, reading motivation and reading behaviours using place-based and participatory methods. These interests straddle theories of learning and educational practices with a focus on applying knowledge in communities to invite a greater participation in reading for pleasure, wellbeing, and education. |
Teaching and Learning | I am a Senior Fellow in Higher Education and my teaching is directly informed by my practice based research in creative prose, and my education and community based research in literacy and literary work in the community. I teaching on the BA Honours Degree Creative Writing Multidiscipline: Teaching Masterclass (Level 6) Final Portfolio (all forms of Creative Writing (Level 6) English Dissertation (Level 6) Introduction to Children's Fiction (Level 5) Writer's Practice (Level 4) I have developed from inception and led two degree programmes: BA Creative Writing Multidisicpline and MA Creative Writing (First Novel), and assisted in the curriculum development of BA English (Multidiscipline). |
