Biography I graduated from the University of Salford in 2016 having completed a BSc in Biomedical Science with Professional Experience. I went on to complete a MSc by research at the University of Salford in 2017 under the supervision on Professor Niroshini Nirmalan, with the focus of this work examining the interplay of inflammatory cytokines following major traumatic injury.

In 2017, I undertook an industrially funded PhD with Dr David Greensmith at the University of Salford, investigating the chemical composition and anti-cancer potential of Boswellia carterii oleoresins. During my project, I also had the opportunity to utilise state of the art epi-fluorescent microscopy techniques to begin to understand the impact of traditionally utilised phytochemicals on cardiac myocyte function.

Following the completion of my PhD in 2021, I was appointed as a senior teaching technician in Biomedical Science at the University of Salford, before transitioning to academia as a Teaching Fellow in Biomedical Science in December 2021. I was subsequently promoted to my current role as a Lecturer in Physiology in March 2023.
Research Interests My research interests align to better understanding the therapeutic potential of novel phytochemicals and phytomedicines for the treatment of cancer, infection and inflammatory conditions. I am also particularly interested in better understanding the cardiotoxic effects of phytomedicines and their activity at a single cell level. Further to this, I also have an interest in understanding the interactions of traditionally used phytomedicines with clinically utilised therapeutics to determine if they can be used to enhance effectiveness or mitigate off-target effects.

My experimental expertise include: Flow cytometry, fluorescent and confocal microscopy, automated microscopy, live cell imaging, cell/tissue culture, molecular biology techniques, analytical chemistry techniques including high-performance-liquid chromatography (HPLC) and mass spectrometry.
Teaching and Learning I am the Deputy Programme Leader for the Biomedical Science Programme, with an emphasis on supporting level 4 students.

I am also the Admissions Tutor for the Biomedicine suite of programmes including Biomedical Science, Human Biology and Infectious Diseases and their associated Foundation years.

I am the module leader for the Undergraduate modules Biomedical Skills, and Human Physiology.

I also teach across a wide range of undergraduate modules across all levels including Biomedical Skills, Professional Skills, Human Physiology, Human Systems Physiology, Animal Physiology, Translational Research Skills, and Advances in Pathophysiology. I also teach on numerous MSc programmes.

I supervise research projects at Undergraduate and Master’s levels on our Biomedical Science aligned programmes.

I undertake pedagogical research into better understanding the needs of students transitioning to higher education, as well as ways to embed academic/industrial research aligned content into the curriculum.
