Biography Anisa Gumel is a dedicated and accomplished doctoral candidate specialising in sustainability and waste management in developing countries at Salford Business School. With a solid background in biological science and a master’s degree in health safety and Environment, Anisa brings a multidisciplinary approach to her research, aiming to address critical environmental challenges and drive positive change in underprivileged communities.
Anisa's academic journey began with her bachelor’s degree in Biological Science, where she developed a profound understanding of ecological systems, biodiversity conservation, and the intricate relationships between humans and the environment. Motivated to apply her scientific knowledge practically, she pursued a master’s degree in health safety and Environment, focusing on identifying and mitigating risks associated with various industries while promoting sustainable practices.
Driven by her passion for sustainability and desire to make a tangible impact on developing countries, Anisa embarked on her doctoral studies at Salford Business School. Her research focuses on waste management systems in resource-constrained settings, examining the social, economic, and environmental dimensions of waste generation, collection, treatment, and disposal. Anisa aims to identify innovative and context-specific solutions that address the unique challenges developing countries such as her home country Nigeria face in managing their waste sustainably.
Anisa has collaborated with local communities, NGOs, and governmental organisations to gain first-hand insights into these regions' waste management practices and challenges. She aims to develop practical strategies that promote the waste management sector by engaging stakeholders and implementing participatory approaches.
Throughout her academic career, Anisa has contributed to sustainability and waste management. She has presented her research findings at the university’s SPARC. She is in. the process of publishing articles in reputable journals, demonstrating her commitment to advancing knowledge and sharing insights with the global research community.
In addition to her academic pursuits, Anisa is deeply passionate about creating awareness and advocating for sustainable waste management practices. She actively engages with local communities and conducts workshops to educate individuals on the importance of waste segregation, recycling, and the potential of waste as a resource. By empowering communities with knowledge and promoting behaviour change, Anisa strives to foster a culture of sustainability and environmental stewardship.
Anisa's dedication to her research and desire to make a positive impact extend beyond academia. She actively seeks opportunities to collaborate with international organisations and NGOs in sustainable development. By partnering with these entities, she aims to contribute to implementing sustainable waste management projects, ensuring the well-being of both the environment and the communities affected.
Outside of her research, Anisa enjoys exploring nature, exercising, reading, learning new cultures and languages, and travelling . Her love for the natural world fuels her commitment to protecting the environment and inspires her research.
With her interdisciplinary background, research expertise, and passion for sustainable waste management in developing countries, Anisa is poised to become a leading advocate and catalyst for change. Her work seeks to empower communities, reduce environmental impact, and promote sustainable development in some of the world's most vulnerable regions.
