Dr Angela Tait A.D.Tait@salford.ac.uk
Lecturer in Fine Art
Hoard is part artists’ book and part installed sculpture. It functions as a book in that it is a repository for knowledge and a place where discourse can begin.
‘Hoard’ is the culmination of a two year research project in Leeds which started with Angela’s collection of hundreds of lost (found) gloves. Throughout this extended process the collection adapted first into a vast paper sculpture in numerous guises and finally into the book. 200+ slip cast ceramic canisters each containing a ‘page’ with a unique monoprint. The gloves are catalogued but outside of any regular archiving process or system. Each print is a beautiful yet subtle abstract.
Our presentation would narrate our process alongside our thoughts, musings and the negotiation of two artists seeking an artwork which is more than the sum of its parts. The book (Hoard) will be available for us to bring in October. It is intentionally flexible. It can be (and has been) installed in different spaces and is suitable for a hands on session or demonstration with an audience.
