Abstract
The Sultry Swan is a slow melody for cornet and brass band and has two clearly defined musical ideas in its construction. The introduction and first theme are lyrical in texture and evoke images of the river bank, the water gently ebbing to and fro whilst the swan glides gracefully across its glassy surface. Although there are no other birds as elegant as the swan in water there are also none as comical out of it, and in contrast to the first theme the second theme reflects the natural ‘waddle’ of the swan when it is on dry land. A laid back solo for a lazy Sunday afternoon.
