Abstract
Edited by Birgit Wiedl, Eveline Brugger, and Dean Irwin, this volume has grown out of a series of panels that we we organised collectively for the EAJS Congress in Frankfurt (July 2023). These were organised to tackle the following challenge, and bring colleagues working on different parts of Europe together:
Medieval Jewish moneylending has long attracted the attention of scholars, with an increasing number of studies being produced over the last decades, both local and regional studies and broad surveys, which encompass the European continent as a whole. However, the way in which the topic of moneylending can be accessed depends largely on the quality, quantity, and type of source material which has been preserved in the respective region. These panels bring experts in the various sources and languages of medieval Jewish moneylending into conversation with each other.
