Journal Article
Tierney, S., Butterfield, C., Stringer, E., Fox, J., McGowan, L., & Furber, C. (2010). Difficulties in recruiting pregnant women with eating or weight issues. British Journal of Midwifery, 18(11), 717-723. https://doi.org/10.12968/bjom.2010.18.11.79559

During pregnancy, the eating behaviour and body of childbearing women can become open to public scrutiny. It is important to gather the views of those who are pregnant and have an eating/weight issue to ensure that maternity services meet their needs... Some studies suggest that goal setting improves health-related behaviours in lon... Read More about Goal Setting for Managing Rheumatoid Arthritis Fatigue: A Qualitative Exploration.

Podiatrists’ perspectives of the provision of foot health education for people with Rheumatoid Arthritis. (2010)
Journal Article
A, G., A, H., & A, W. (2010). Podiatrists’ perspectives of the provision of foot health education for people with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Journal of Foot and Ankle Research, 3, https://doi.org/10.1186/1757-1146-3-s1-o11

Introduction
Patient education is considered to be a key role for podiatrists in the management of patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). However there is no evidence that identifies or supports the most appropriate strategies and content for its... Polarization weighting of Fano-type transmission through bi-dimensional metallic gratings (2010)
Journal Article
Tetz, K., Lomakin, V., Nezhad, M., Pang, L., & Fainman, Y. (2010). Polarization weighting of Fano-type transmission through bi-dimensional metallic gratings. Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 27(4), 911-917. https://doi.org/10.1364/JOSAA.27.000911

We demonstrate an approach allowing isolating effects of surface plasmon polariton mediated resonant transmission in a periodic grating by means of polarization rotation. The grating comprises a square array of cylindrical holes in an optically thick... Read More about Polarization weighting of Fano-type transmission through bi-dimensional metallic gratings.

Measurement of the optical properties of gold at cryogenic temperatures (2010)
Conference Proceeding
Nezhad, M., Simic, A., & Fainman, Y. (2010). Measurement of the optical properties of gold at cryogenic temperatures. In Frontiers in Optics 2010/Laser Science XXVI, OSA Technical Digest. https://doi.org/10.1364/FIO.2010.FThR4

Optical constants of gold are measured at cryogenic temperatures. The imaginary part of epsilon exhibits a drop at longer wavelengths. This directly demonstrates that performance of metal-based optical devices can be improved by cryogenic cooling.

Curved waveguide Bragg gratings on a chip (2010)
Conference Proceeding
Zamek, S., Tan, D., Khajavikhan, M., Nezhad, M., & Fainman, Y. (2010). Curved waveguide Bragg gratings on a chip. In Frontiers in Optics 2010/Laser Science XXVI, OSA Technical Digest (paper FMH4). https://doi.org/10.1364/FIO.2010.FMH4

We demonstrate curved waveguide Bragg gratings on an SOI chip. Our approach allows long Bragg gratings to be fabricated on an extremely small area, avoiding write-field stitching errors, typically introduced in the fabrication process.

Compact chip-scale filter based on curved waveguide Bragg gratings (2010)
Journal Article
Zamek, S., Tan, D., Khajavikhan, M., Ayache, M., Nezhad, M., & Fainman, Y. (2010). Compact chip-scale filter based on curved waveguide Bragg gratings. Optics Letters, 35(20), 3477-3479. https://doi.org/10.1364/OL.35.003477

We propose a method for miniaturization of filters based on curved waveguide Bragg gratings, so that long structures can be packed into a small area on a chip. This eliminates the stitching errors introduced in the fabrication process, which compromi... Read More about Compact chip-scale filter based on curved waveguide Bragg gratings.

Active and passive nanophotonics for information systems applications (2010)
Conference Proceeding
Fainman, Y., Tan, D., Zamek, S., Bondarenko, O., Simic, A., Mizrahi, A., …Slutsky, B. (2010). Active and passive nanophotonics for information systems applications. In IEEE Winter Topicals 2011 (145-146). https://doi.org/10.1109/PHOTWTM.2011.5730089

This paper explores the role of nanotechnology with focus on nanophotonics in dielectric, metal, and semiconductor inhomogeneous metamaterials and devices for optical communications, information and signal processing, and sensing.

Evaluating clinical librarian services : a systematic review (2010)
Journal Article
Brettle, A., Maden-Jenkins, M., Anderson, L., McNally, R., Pratchett, T., Tancock, J., …Webb, A. (2011). Evaluating clinical librarian services : a systematic review. Health Information and Libraries Journal, 28(1), 3-22. https://doi.org/10.1111/j.1471-1842.2010.00925.x

Background: Previous systematic reviews have indicated limited evidence and poor quality evaluations
of clinical librarian (CL) services. Rigorous evaluations should demonstrate the value of CL services, but
guidance is needed before this can be ac... Read More about Evaluating clinical librarian services : a systematic review.

The limitations of BIM in the architectural process (2010)
Presentation / Conference
Coates, S., Arayici, Y., Koskela, L., Kagioglou, M., Usher, C., & O’ Reilly, K. (2010, December). The limitations of BIM in the architectural process. Presented at First International Conference on Sustainable Urbanization (ICSU 2010), Hong Kong, China

Building Informational Modeling has been suggested by some as the panacea to address the interdisciplinary inefficiencies in the construction industry. In many cases the adoption of BIM has numerous potential benefits. But when considering individual... Read More about The limitations of BIM in the architectural process.
