Increasing numbers of women / birthing people seek mental health support as they feel traumatised and distressed following their birth. The impact on wellbeing, health and future relationships with their baby may be significant, and there is risk of worsening mental health. The project will include an evidence synthesis of literature related to birth trauma, use of digital Apps and Compassion Focused Therapy, to support the development of a protocol to evaluate and test an existing Compassion Focussed Therapy App for postnatal populations. PPIE volunteers from local NHS populations waiting for debrief opportunities with a midwife will be consulted for their views and opinions. The results of the evidence synthesis and consultations will be used to develop a protocol to pilot the use of the existing Compassion Focused Therapy Digital App with postnatal populations waiting for support. This will provide a basis for seeking further funds to pilot and assess feasibility for further research in clinical settings.
