Abstract
This presentation brings together different perspectives from a selection of members from the International Teaching and Learning Network (ITLN) with the purpose of sharing best practices in supporting institutional continuing professional development (CPD) within learning and teaching. Drawing on insights gained from five UK universities: Keele University, The University of Salford, University of Dundee, London South Bank University, and Abertay University Dundee; we discuss targeted approaches to enhancing CPD to ensure consistency of teaching excellence and provide a synergy of different perspectives on providing a high-quality inclusive educational experience. We build on the knowledge that staff engagement is significantly enhanced when CPD is directly relevant to practice (Husband, 2015; Dismore, Turner, and Huang, 2019). It boosts motivation, commitment, and resilience and assists colleagues in developing the necessary skills for present and future enhancement (Deci and Ryan, 2000; Boyd et al., 2011; Basit et al., 2015). This work is particularly timely with the advancement of Ed-tech and the impact of AI in education. We will share a synthesis of our collective discussions and debates to provide a synergy of different perspectives on what works in providing high-quality inclusive CPD to support teaching excellence. The presentation will focus on the following themes:
1.Approaches to enhancing CPD to ensure consistency of teaching excellence.
2.A synergy of different perspectives regarding what works in providing a high-quality inclusive educational experience.
3.Development of resilience within learning communities which drive continuous improvement.
The consortium panel provides a platform for sharing best practices and innovative approaches to CPD. We bring together insights from multiple institutions to enhance teaching excellence and provide a high-quality discussion in the sphere of enhancing academic practice to ensure a quality learning experience.
