Abstract
This is a rough mix of episode 1 of a BBC / Savvy Productions radio drama, broadcast in May/June 2016 on BBC Radio 4. The music is solely composed by Williams and performed by the BBC Philharmonic conducted by Clark Rundell. The knowledge revealed by the practice-based project concerns: a) the synthesis of 1950's and 1960's sci-fi movie music with contemporary orchestration and composition techniques; b) the construction of radio drama in which the music plays a role from the outset, and is not a final layer added on post-production; c) as a model of collaborative composition between drama adapter Val McDermid and composer Alan Williams.
